Abstract

"A Survey and Investigation of Unemployment and Reemployment of Female Employees in State-Owned Enterprises" was part of the strategic and policy research project "Employment Policy and the Transition to a Market Economy" carried out in China with financial aid from the United Nations Office for Planned Development. This research project was jointly directed by the Chinese Department of Labor and the International Labor Organization (ILO). The "Employment Policy and the Transition to a Market Economy" Survey and Investigation Team carried out investigations in a variety of locations throughout China in April and May of 1994. As a component of the overall research topic, the author undertook a survey and investigation of unemployment and reemployment of female employees in state-owned enterprises. The research touched on the current state of employment for China's female employees, adjustment of labor relations, the perfecting of labor legislation, the establishment of a labor market, the orderly flow of labor, the establishment of an urban/rural employment service network, retraining and reemployment for the unemployed and those awaiting work reassignment, and a series of other issues relating to employment policy. Through investigation and research of the issues above, this paper specifically probes the current situation, special features, developmental trends, and methods for solving problems with respect to unemployment and reemployment of female employees in stateowned enterprises.
