Abstract
State-owned enterprises are a major component of the national economy, and young workers in the state-owned enterprises have become the main body of employees in these enterprises. This article is based on a 1991 survey of ten thousand workers throughout China conducted by the China Labor Movement Institute under the All-China Federation of Trade Unions and on a survey of 50,000 workers throughout China conducted by the Federation in August 1992, in which the perception of relocation among young employees in state-owned enterprises was analyzed. Statistics contained in the above-mentioned two surveys indicate that young employees aged 35 and under constituted 53.2 percent and 51.6 percent respectively of the total number of employees in 1991 and 1992. As the degree of social openness increases and the internal reforms of enterprises proceed apace, job relocations among young employees in state-owned enterprises have gradually become a major issue which is drawing concern in all quarters.
