Abstract

This article is the first part of an investigation carried out by the team of Communication and Education of the Faculty of Communications of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. The article examines the reasons and mode in which media education has been integrated into the Chilean school system. First, the team reviewed and evaluated the actual situation of media education in the current Chilean national education program in relation to widely validated international criteria. Then, it elaborated a relevance table and learning map in order to set a base for a proposal that integrates those criteria and can be used as a guide for continuous education and teaching training.
