Abstract

This paper presents a wearable antenna for medical application with circular polarization, high Gain, and low-profile features. The proposed antenna is fabricated on a low loss, low weight, and completely flexible substrate to ensure antenna performance in realistic conditions. Using the frequency selective surface to beamforming the radiation pattern in different frequencies is employed to implement the antenna in on- and off-body scenarios. This novel idea keeps the SAR limit consideration and dual-mode operation at the same time for a wide range of frequencies. The antenna has an overall dimension of 20.7 × 20.5 × 0.1 mm3 and provides more than 75% measured bandwidth around the 2.4 GHz ISM band with a maximum circular gain better than 7.9 dB. The proposed antenna can operate, as an interface, simultaneously for on- and off-body applications with sharing frequency techniques. Measurement results with the phantom model show a good agreement with the simulation in different scenarios.
