A comparative study of three weedicides on energy values in Mystus tengara (ham.) with special reference to synergistic and antagonistic effect

Abstract

The effect of sublethal concentration of three weedicides with special reference to synergistic and antagonistic phenomenon on the calorific values have been studied in an air breathing fresh water siluoid fish, Mystus tengara (Ham.). The calorific value of the control group of fishes was 3.32 K.cal/g dry weight, The treatment of Alachlor (A), Xylachlor (B) and Sidruon (C) bring about significant decrease in calorific values. The combination of A+C B+C. A+B and A+B+C make the effect synergistic. The effective hierarchy were in the following sequnces -A+b> B+C> A+B+C>A+C. The TLm (24 h) values of difference biocides (including various combinations) have also been calculated at 24?10C. The significance of this study as bioindicator and in water quality management has been discussed in this paper.. KEYWORDS :Weedicides, Fish, Calorific values.
