Abstract

The crystalline nickel(II) complexes of quinoxaline-2,3-dithiol (H 2QS 2): the cationic [(H 2QS 2) 3Ni]X 2 (X = Cl(2H 2O), Br(H 2O), ClO 4(MeOH)) and [(H 2QS 2′) 2·HQS 2·Ni]I·MeOH, the neutral [(HQS 2) 2Ni] and [(HQS 2) 2Ni]·2A (A = H 2O, DMF) and the anionic [(QS 2) 2Ni]M (M = Na 2(6H 2O), K 2(H 2O), Ba(4H 2O)), have been prepared. The electronic spectra of the solids are different and characteristic for the three classes of complexes. The very intense bands appearing in the visible region are chargetransfer in character. The diamagnetism or the very low magnetic moment (0.6 B.M.) observed for the cationic complexes may indicate a very distorted 6-coordination. The anionic and presumably the neutral complexes have a square planar coordination. In all the complexes the ligand is S,S-coordinated to the metal and a ν(NiS) band is observed at about 420 cm −1.
