Abstract

Because of the ease of processing, good flexibility, and low cost, high-permittivity polymeric materials have received considerable attention in both academic and technological sectors recently. High-permittivity polymeric materials show great potential applications in electrical/electronic engineering as dielectric layers of the energy storage for high-performance capacitors. This chapter addresses the main issues facing the development and realization of high-performance, high-permittivity polymer composites by utilizing advanced nanotechnology. From the processing viewpoints of attaining improved permittivity in polymeric materials, recent progress in the development of ceramic nanoparticle/polymer, metal nanoparticle/polymer, organic nanoparticle/polymer, and carbon nanoparticle/polymer nanocomposites with high permittivity is reviewed and discussed. This chapter also summarizes general strategies to realize high-permittivity polymer nanocomposites with excellent integral properties.
