Abstract

This chapter begins with a brief description of the principle and the characteristics of the electrochemical discharge machining (ECDM) process, and its advantages in shaping particulate reinforced metal matrix composites (MMCs) are highlighted. The design and operation scheme of the ECDM equipment are then given. The chapter goes on to discuss single-factor experiments and the orthogonal analyses that were performed to determine how significant the effects of the various machining parameters on material removal rate (MRR) are. Recognizing that the final machined surface quality is also a critical measure that needs to be evaluated, a study on the effects of machining parameters on surface roughness is included.
