Abstract

Designing and development of new wound dressing materials is an incessant area of research in wound care management. In recent years, electrospinning is considered to be an exceptional method for producing nanofiber-based wound dressing materials because of their several unique factors that are beneficial to improving wound healing process. The electrospun nanofibers offer architectural design resembling natural extracellular matrix, high surface area, interconnected nanoporosity, and incorporation of various therapeutic agents, which significantly improve the wound healing process. This chapter provides an overview on wound healing process, advantage of electrospun nanofibers in wound healing and various types of wound dressing materials prepared by electrospinning with a special emphasis paid to wound healing applications.
