Abstract
Chapter 7 introduces the concept and applications of building integrated photovoltaic thermal (BIPVT) systems coupled with wind and wave energies, two of the other most abundant renewable energy sources complementary to solar energy. In this chapter, the fundamentals of wind and wave energy harvesting are explained. Later, the design of a PV-wind-wave coupled system is discussed. This system not only generates electricity from the BIPVT panels but also provides enough power to run desalination equipment and provide freshwater. The case study introduced at the end demonstrates a submerged pressure differential wave energy converter system that was designed at Columbia University and could be a promising technology for harvesting ocean energy.
