Abstract

By replacing the stationary optical excitation of metal nanoparticles with a short laser pulse, a chain of plasmonic, thermal and mechanical nonstationary events generates an expanding and collapsing vapor nanobubble around a nanoparticle. This plasmonic-fed, nonstationary event is known as a plasmonic nanobubble (PNB). PNBs can improve diagnosis, treatment and theranostics in the most challenging medical situations, supporting a cell-level theranostics that unites two diagnostic and up to four therapeutic and surgical PNB-based mechanisms. PNB theranostics has a huge potential for transforming macro-medicine into a cellular level single-step treatment.
