Abstract

PrefaceCOMAT history is relatively new, we started in 2010. COMAT deals with recent trends in structural materials that cover production technologies (casting, forging, rolling…), heat and thermo-mechanical treatments, computer modelling and physical simulations and materials characterisation. The conference was launched by the research institute COMTES FHT a.s. that is very active in the fields covered by COMAT. The idea was to create a base for knowledge sharing between industry and research and academic experts. It is located in the heart of the Pilsen region that is a traditional heavy industry centre in the Czech Republic with rich history spanning over 150 years.COMAT 2018 was held at Angelo Hotel in Plzen on November 14th – 16th. The conference was organized by company TANGER s.r.o. and COMTES FHT a.s. COMAT 2018 was the fifth of the biannually held conferences. We were really pleased to welcome almost 200 people (exactly 190) from 24 countries from Asia, America, Africa and Europe attending the conference. The participants presented almost 80 lectures and 67 posters. We were really happy to see increase of number of participants by almost 30%, confirming that the conference is attractive to the scientists. The conference was divided into seven sessions and a poster session. This year we newly had dedicated sessions to additive manufacturing that is very important topic of interest nowadays. 96 papers are selected for current proceedings. We hope the papers presented here will be interesting for readers and a good base for inspiration for future developments. We are looking forward to seeing even more participants with great contributions in 2020.Yours sincerelyJan DŽUGANNovember 2018
