Abstract

COMAT history is relatively new, we started in 2010. COMAT deals with recent trends in structural materials that cover production technologies (casting, forging, rolling…), heat and thermo-mechanical treatments, computer modelling and physical simulations and materials characterisation. The conference was launched by the research institute COMTES FHT a.s. that is very active in the fields covered by COMAT. The idea was to create a base for knowledge sharing between industry and research and academic experts. It is located in the heart of the Pilsen region that is a traditional heavy industry centre in the Czech Republic with rich history spanning over 150 years.COMAT 2016 was held at Angelo Hotel in Plzen on November 9th – 11th. The conference was organized by company TANGER s.r.o. and COMTES FHT a.s. COMAT 2016 was the fourth of the biannually held conferences. The subtitle of the conference this year was the 70th anniversary of Prof. Jozef Zrnik, who has been working in the field of material science for many years. It was great pleasure to welcome some of Prof. Zrnik’s students who came for the conference and made the atmosphere of the anniversary even more pleasant. We were really pleased to welcome more than 140 people from 14 countries attending the conference (Algeria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Kazakhstan, Poland, Portugal, Russian Federation, Romania, Slovakia, Thailand, Turkey, Spain, United Kingdom). The participants presented almost 60 lectures and 48 posters. The conference was divided into seven sessions and a poster session. It the current proceedings, 70 papers are selected. We hope the papers presented here will be interesting for readers and a good base for inspiration for future developments. We are looking forward to seeing more participants in 2018.Yours sincerelyJan DŽUGAN and Zbyšek NOVÝJanuary 2017
