Abstract
The paper presents the history of theoretical and applied scientific research of the Laboratory of Mathematical Modeling of Functional and Spatial Development of Cities, Institute for Regional Economic Studies Russian Academy of Sciences. The research topics of the Laboratory are related to the formation and development of mathematical modeling methods for solving problems of transport and urban planning. The article shows the continuity of scientific approaches to research, provides information about the main research results for 55 years of the Laboratory.
