Abstract

Facial feminization surgery (FFS) can be defined as a group of procedures performed to achieve a more phenotypically female appearance and is most frequently associated with transgender patients although it need not be limited to this group as there are many genotypically female patients who strive to achieve a more feminized appearance and similarly benefit from many of these procedures. While the correction of supraorbital bossing and a prominent thyroid cartilage are almost exclusive to the transgender population, modification of the jawline and chin to achieve a V-line facial shape, augmentation of the facial skeleton to accentuate features such as the malar eminence, rhinoplasty to achieve a more facially balanced appearance, and rejuvenation of the face by rhytidectomy, blepharoplasty, and brow lift all contribute to feminization of the face and are important components of FFS.
