Abstract

Many patients exhibiting skeletal discrepancies that would ideally be treated with orthognathic surgery undergo nonsurgical correction of their malocclusion with orthodontics alone. This nonsurgical solution achieves a class I dental occlusion but frequently leaves the patient with unaesthetic facial proportion. The majority of patients seeking chin augmentation and many seeking rhinoplasty are within this group of patients. Although performing orthognathic surgery as an adult is possible, almost all patients seek a cosmetic improvement through less invasive means. This chapter discusses strategies of achieving proper facial proportion in this patient population with techniques other than orthognathic surgery.
