Abstract

This chapter provides a brief introduction to human interface subsystems commonly designed as operator panels with provisions for the display of process parameters and process control for direct interaction with the process by the operator. The operator panel consists of active display elements and active control elements to facilitate these functions. The panels can be of the conventional or mimic type. In the mimic type, identification of active elements is unambiguous. Panels may be of painted sheet metal or fiberglass, or printed mosaic tiles.
