Abstract
This chapter provides an overview of piping definitions and manufacturing of various types of pipes. The variations in wall thickness of pipe do not affect the outside dimension (OD), but just the inside dimension (ID). Pipe length is referred as single random, double random, longer than double random, and cut lengths. Based upon vendor literature, different pipe descriptions include seamless pipe, electric weld, double submerged arc weld, and continuous weld. ASTM A-120, ASTM A-53, ASTM A-106, and API-5L are the different brand names of pipes that differ in sizes and markings. Pipes should be stored in racks forming different layers. Each joint is marked according to length, size, schedule, and purchase order item number. Dunnage of the same thickness is applied across the pipe. Weight per foot of pipe can be calculated from OD and the wall thickness of a pipe (t).
