Abstract

The European fabric structures industry is approaching a key moment in its development as it considers aligning itself closer to the standards expected of other forms of construction. Through the consideration of specific projects – the main example being the design and construction of the London 2012 Olympic Stadium – this chapter will consider the recent developments in fabric architecture in Europe. We will consider first the historical context of European fabric structures and current best practise, and subsequently provide this author's recommendations for the future development of the industry.
