Abstract

Pyogenic granuloma (PG), also known as a lobular capillary hemangioma is a common benign vascular growth. They are often seen in children as well as pregnant women and commonly on the head and neck regions. They can resolve spontaneously however treatment is usually required. Because PGs are benign it is important to take cosmesis into consideration when choosing the treatment modality. PGs are frequently managed with destructive measures including a combination of excision/curettage and electrocautery. Other destructive modalities include silver nitrate, cryotherapy and laser treatments (Pulsed-dye, CO2 & Nd:YAG). Finally, there are anecdotal reports of varied third line therapies proven effective.
