Abstract

This chapter discusses various derivations depending on the second moments of area of beam sections. The second moment of the area δA about the axis XX is given by δI = y2δA and the total second moment of area or moment of inertia about the axis XX is I = ∞y2dA. According to parallel-axis theorem, about any axis, the second moment of area is equal to the second moment of area about a parallel axis through the centroid and the area times the distance between the axes squared.
