Abstract

Participating in the profession is helpful for developing your brand and increasing your exposure to other professionals. Creating a digital version of your professional brand through social media is a way to share your skills, interests, and personality as a professional librarian. Comments and questions on websites, social media, and through email should conform to your brand identity and professional standard. Consider the context of your comments to avoid significant, damaging consequences to your long-term career and reputation. A personal website or blog that showcases your professional interests should act as a home base for your digital profile, with links to your various online presences. As you step further into the profession through publishing and presenting, a personal website can help to market yourself, your skills, and your career. In addition to digital participation, in-person involvement in committees also expands your circle of influence and your professional network.
