Abstract

Tissue engineering is an essential and multidisciplinary field that is mainly used to increase the function of organs or body systems by means of the replacement of organs or repairing of tissues. A tissue engineering approach using nanotechnology for pulmonary diseases has explored the new dimensions that arouse the modification in complex tissue structures. Nanotechnology-based drug delivery system for pulmonary illnesses has the distinct advantage of targeting the cells with fewer side effects and toxicity, which has become a promising approach to removing the problems faced by tissue engineering. According to a recent survey of the global burden of diseases, a higher morbidity rate was observed with respiratory diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, and lung cancer. Researchers are working for the betterment of the society by means of innovating new diagnostic tools and treatment strategies using tissue engineering approaches along with the help of nanotechnology. This chapter is specially focused on the exclusive and novel ideas of tissue engineering and nanotechnology approaches for pulmonary diseases.
