Abstract

Handmade carpets and rugs in use are subject to atmospheric soiling, tracked-in dirt, and accidental spillages. This chapter reveals how the good appearance of these carpets can be preserved or restored by careful planning, regular maintenance, and professional cleaning. Methods for regular dry soil removal, emergency spot cleaning, low moisture surface cleaning, and intensive deep cleaning are discussed. We will consider how to choose the best chemicals for the job.
