Abstract

This chapter discusses the ways to produce a drawing using AutoCAD. As a prerequisite, a user should be able to create an AutoCAD drawing and to save it. The ultimate aim of using a CAD system is to produce a drawing unless the drawing data is to be used to drive a manufacturing device directly. The plotting process can be problematical not because of any deficiency of AutoCAD but usually because of the mechanical nature of the plotter itself. It is not uncommon for pens to dry up during a plot or the paper to become misaligned. It is impossible to be completely specific about setting up a plotter as there is such a wide variation in the types and sizes of plotters. It is common that the plotter will be connected to the same port on the back of the computer as the mouse or digitizer. Before plotting, the plotter should be connected to this port. The plotter must then be switched on, and it will usually run through a short test routine.
