Abstract

The fiber surface (interface) is a platform where the main detection event takes place. Depending on the type of surface modification, the specificity, sensitivity, and signal-to-noise ratio of the biosensing device could vary and be applied to only certain types of applications. In this chapter, we discuss main modification technologies in optical fiber biosensors using the glass fiber and the metal layer-coated fiber.
