Abstract
We proposed a failure assessment diagram (FAD) incorporating the process zone size fracture criterion and the probability concept proposed herein and investigated the appropriateness of this diagram as a method for evaluating the safety of dental porcelain. In addition, we investigated the statistical properties of bending strength σ_c and plane strain fracture toughness K_<1c> and the crack length dependence of σ_c and fracture toughness K_c at room temperature under atmospheric conditions, using low fusion dental porcelain, which, despite being a typical brittle material, fractures in a non-linear manner.
