Abstract

Goal of research – cover of the USA involvement in Polish-Ukrainian conflict in the Eastern Galicia, which was started in November 1918, after the fall of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Methodology founds upon historicism, systematicity, scientificity, verification, authorial objectivity, consider narrative constructionism principals and the general scientific (analysis, synthesis, generalization) and special-historical (historical-genetic, historicaltypologic, historical-system) methods. Academic novelty is the first in Ukrainian historiography the comprehensive examine of the USA policy regarding of Polish-Ukrainian military conflict the Eastern Galicia (in the late 1919 – in the beginning 1919) which basis of an analysis of published official documents of the US State Department relative to the problematic has been made. Conclusions. During November 1918-Febuary 1919 the Washington was one of the arbitrators in resolution of Polish-Ukrainian conflict in the Eastern Galicia, which was initiated also as intention of both parties to implement the idea of creation of an independent state, using the principle „right of nations of self-determination”, which was proclaimed by the USA. Poland and West Ukrainian People’s Republic claiming the control over the region were entered the international fray actively and made an appeal to the White House, seeking recognition of their pretension as legitimate. For West Ukrainian People’s Republic this activity was working. Through the constant conversation for help to Wilson’s administration with a statement that the proclamation of Ukrainian state is the implementation of the principle of nation’s self-determination. The West Ukrainian government has achieved that its interests haven’t ignored despite the fact, the Washington leaned toward Poland.
