Abstract

The development of Korean studies educational content in various academic fields is necessary for considering the ever-increasing demand for Korean studies. In response to this reality, this study proposes the need to utilize the elements of minjung(people) culture, which form the basis of Korean culture, as content for developing practical Korean studies educational content to be provided to overseas Korean studies learners. In other words, developing a wide range of elements related to the concept of minjung culture in history, literature, language, ideology, and religion as educational content for Korean studies will be possible to approach the diverse needs of consumers of Korean studies more deeply. To this end, this study examines the necessity and methodology of educational content for Korean studies using the characteristics of the people(minjung) inherent in language and culture. Also, this study delves into the development of interdisciplinary educational content based on history and ideas. Analysis of the current status of Korean studies and the current demand for Korean studies were also briefly reviewed. In addition, as an example of the development of Korean educational content based on minjung culture, a lecture structure was presented for the subject ‘Minjung culture and Korean proverbs.’ In particular, this course can be helpful as a model for developing K-MOOC courses for overseas Korean studies consumers by developing a structure on the premise of MOOC courses.
