Abstract

The aim of the study is to develop a method for selecting information during information search as an integral part of information independence through teaching students to read in higher education institutions. During the formation of information independence of higher education students, it was revealed that it is impossible to carry out a stage of information selection without reading, mastering various types of which will allow students to independently build an individual strategy for professional information development in the context of educational and future professional activity, regardless of the possible scope of using the acquired skill. The paper provides the statistical data on the growth of using the information and communication technologies in the learning process, confirming the need for training in information search. The scientific originality of the research is that for the first time reading is considered as a constituent element of the information search algorithm as a method of selecting (familiarizing and extracting) information, which can be used by a student during his studies at higher school, as well as in his subsequent professional activity. As a result of the study, the hypothesis has been confirmed that reading can be a way of selecting information during information search by students of higher education institutions, as a part of planning their professional information independence, while the target audience is academic teaching staff, who is the addresser of skills, and students of higher education institutions, who are the addressee.
