Abstract

The article describes the basic types, means and models of adjective composition in the sphere of the modern English customs terminology. The paper focuses on the principles for differentiating between a compound and a word combination and identifies the mechanisms of the basic word formation processes. The authors conclude that in the analysed terminological system the hyphenated spelling of adjectives prevails along with the model N + Part II , which allows tracing a possible tendency in customs terminology formation. The basic types of stem composition are represented by the terms consisting of simple stems and complex-derivative terms.
