Abstract

The paper aims to evaluate artistic quality of “Eugene Onegin” personages’ images created by A. V. Khvastunova at the beginning of the XXI century and to identify their place in the history of the novel illustration. It is shown that the painter adopted creative principles of the ‘Mir Iskusstva’ (World of Art) artistic movement associated with the Modern Style. Scientific originality of the study involves identifying the place of A. V. Khvastunova’s illustrations in the history of the novel design. The research findings are as follows: the researcher proves that fresh, emotionally evoking artistic images correlate with the story; illustrations not just accompany A. S. Pushkin’s text but clarify and replenish it.
