Abstract

The purpose of this study is to check the current status of the subjects of character education in college’s liberal arts education and to explore future educational directions. To this end, in this study, from June to November 2020, through literature research and survey development and consultation related to character education, questions were confirmed and surveyed, and results were analyzed and discussed. Considering that it is not easy to cooperate with each university due to COVID-19, related information was investigated online such as universities' websites. The subjects of this study became a total of 115 universities. As a result of the study, there were many cases where the domain called 'character' was not organized separately, and the degree of non-organization in the sub-category of character education was also varied. The percentage of subjects opened was 'emotional/aesthetic experience', 'employment/start-up', and 'physical experience' in the order. As for the required subjects, ‘college life guidance for freshmen' and 'college teaching' were high. According to the results of the analysis of 'character education' subjects, the subjects in the physical and emotional experience domain showed clear and differentiated characteristics. It was confirmed that the history and tradition of character education are in touch with the present. Through this study, it will be possible to examine the purpose and operational status of character education in college’s liberal arts education and to explore the future educational directions.
