Abstract

This study is designed to investigate the status and changes in the structure of the global trade of used clothing from a network perspective and to draw implications for the used clothing trade. Trade data for 2011, 2015, and 2019 of the top 30 countries is from the UN Comtrade database. HS Code 6309 is used to obtain cross-border trade data. The analysis results are as follows. The used clothing trade network is centered in the US, UK, Germany, Pakistan, Ghana, Turkey, Togo, and Benin. In 2015, Korea’s influence as an exporting country increased; in 2019, China’s influence as an exporting country increased. The Netherlands has been moving to the periphery since 2015. The UAE has grown into a core country since 2015. In addition, compared to 2011, the used clothing trade network expanded in density, average path length, and scale in 2015, while in 2019 it contracted slightly compared to 2015. This study analyzes the current status and changes in the global trade structure of used clothing by applying trade network analysis, and provides implications for the establishment of strategies for overseas expansion of used clothing exporting companies.
