Abstract

This paper presents the results of the research on mentoring practice in schools of the Nišava district with the aim of showing the current situation in terms of trainees’ preparation for work, their assessment of various aspects of the role of mentors and the need for permanent professional development of both mentors and trainees. As in modern education, in terms of introducing beginners to the work process, more and more demands are placed on experienced professionals, so their tasks are also complicated in terms of supporting trainees during the first year of work and ensuring that the work is performed at a high level of quality and expertise. The research conducted for the purposes of this paper included 24 interns from the Nišava district who completed their internship in the last five years. By analyzing the results obtained, it can be concluded that the intern’s self-evaluation based on the concept of readiness for a professional role shows a high degree of success, which indicates good mentoring support and successful communication between mentors and trainees, but also the need for professional development in educational policies and efforts for quality education in the RS.
