Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of truncation — one of the ways of compressive word formation. The paper identifies the main reasons that contribute to the activation of this method of derivation in modern Russian speech, describes the structural types of truncated words, and analyses their morphological features. It is shown that at present, truncations are increasingly used in everyday speech, jargon, Internet communication, and the language of mass media. It is concluded that the activation of truncation reflects the tendency to expressiveness of speech.
