Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore if the Korean Standard Textbook for the Employment Permit System Test of Proficiency in Koreanis properly composed of contents to help prepare for the EPS TOPIK. 480 questions from the reading section of the EPS TOPIK revealed by the Human Resources Development Service of Korea were examined by classifying them into five categories and analyzing their association with the Korean Standard Textbook. The result demonstrated that compared to how the questions from the reading section of the EPS TOPIK were at a beginner’s level, the Korean Standard Textbook had a wide range of contents from beginner to advanced levels of difficulty. The Human Resources Development Service of Korea currently established a question bank for EPS TOPIK and automatically extracts each type of question to be on the exam. however, periodic development of the questions is not conducted. As such, it is imperative to have updated questions suitable for changing times and realistically improve the Korean Standard Textbook to support actual change on EPS TOPIK.
