Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the service-learning experiences of college students who participated in English subjects applying service-learning and explore the effects. A total of 26 Korean students participated in this study, and assisted Australian university students in learning learn Korean language and culture. Qualitative research methods were used to analyze the data collected from weekly reflection logs, journals submitted at the end of the semester, mid-term/final-term evaluation meeting. According to the findings, students were motivated participate in the service-learning because they wanted to improve English proficiency, communicate with people from other cultures and earn an additional credit. Plus, it was found that students engaged in preparing, implementing, developing strategies, and reflecting. Suggestions were made for future global service learning at higher education settings.
