Abstract

Objectives The purpose of this study was to analyze power of self-compassion in the relationship between workrelated stress and psychological exhaustion of childcare teachers. This paper proposes a reason why we need a way to alleviate psychological exhaustion of childcare teachers who experience work-related stress while working and baseline data on ways to provide education and support for them.
 Methods For this study, a survey was distributed to 310 childcare teachers working in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, and a total of 303 responses were used for data analysis, excluding seven biased responses.
 Results First, the psychological exhaustion according to demographic characteristics was significant. Second, there was a significant positive correlation between the work-related stress and psychological exhaustion of childcare teachers, and a significant negative correlation between the work-related stress of childcare teachers and self-compassion, self-compassion and psychological exhaustion. Third, childcare teachers who have experienced work-related stress are effected negatively on psychological exhaustion. However, for childcare teachers who experience the same work-related stress, if they have high self-compassion, they utilize individual resource effectively to reduce psychological exhaustion through stable self-concept when they face negative environment.
 Conclusions This study was meaningful as it confirmed a regulation effect of self-compassion in a relationship between work-related stress of childcare teachers and psychological exhaustion. In particular, we anticipate this paper provides reasons to improve childcare teacher’s work environment and provide education and support for them and to be utilized as a basic data to organize and create positive work environment.
