Abstract

This study examines the life of Kang Jin-ku, who is a prominent figure in the topic of “globalization with local characteristics,” which has recently been emphasized as a response to the local extinction. To examine his life, this study focuses on the historical significance of the Yeongju area, the church, and the school where he grew up during the Japanese colonial period. It can be seen as a background of his success. In addition, this study conducted oral interviews with family and acquaintances to fill in the gaps in his autobiography. Through this research, it became clear that the historicity of the community and the nation plays a large role in the success of an individual. Kang Jin-ku, who was born in Yeongju, overcame the hardships of modern history, including Japanese colonization and war, and became a professional engineer and then a professional executive, making contributions not only to Korea but also to the global electronics industry. This study will contribute to establishing the identity of the modern Yeongju region.
