Abstract

This research lays its objective in going over eroticism which came out from the core of suppression upon desire in late Joseon dynasty era and the meaning of desire expressed in late Joseon women’s costume. The results are as following. First, late Joseon is a Confucianism-oriented country and had strict hierarchical division and this era was very inferior enough to suppress women’s lives. Second, as it approached to the last half of Joseon, women attempted to expose part of their bodies unlike previous half, and they revealed their sensuality with tight Jeogori and full-flowing skirt. Women in Joseon made themselves owners of themselves as well as expressed other’s desire using their costume image in the era of self-control and suppression, and they also expressed eroticism, desire for power, desire for self-display.
