Abstract

The purpose of the article is to study the political activity of Russian Freemasonry of the 18th -20th centuries. The main idea of the research is the thesis that Freemasonry is not so much philanthropic, aimed at the moral improvement of a person, as the Masons themselves claim, but first of all it is an organization seeking to implement its political plans and establish a new world order. As a result, the author concludes that the natives of Orel province played important role in Freemasonry; he also examines the relationship between Freemasons and radical political organizations, both Russian and foreign.
