Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine biography of an elderly man living alone who was a Siberia Forced laborer, and pursue the substantiality of his life. The subject of this research is one elderly man living alone who has experienced Forced laborer in Siberia, and we collected data through in-depth interview. The researcher analyzed it according to Rosenthal's research method in order to accomplish the purpose of this study. As a result, By contrasting the life-story as narrated with life as lived, we realized that there was a recognition across his lifetime that his life is “a weary life that had to be dragged around regardless of his own will”. The researcher discussed efforts to sublimate an individual's tragedy into social memory, importance and direction of logotherapy at old age, and compensation for forced laborers in the period of Japanese colonialism based on the research results.
