Abstract

The article is devoted to the characteristics of a complex of horse bones (skull, cervical vertebrae, metacarpal bones, buried in a deep pit on the right bank of the Katun River in the village of Rybalka of the Mayminsky district of the Altai Republic. In the destroyed cultural layer around the pit with horse bones, various objects (coins, jewelry, horse harness parts) of the second half of the 19th century were found. These finds could have accompanied such a burial of animal bones, in the format of rituals performed at the ferry, where the remains of the sacrificial horse were buried. The composition of animal bones from this complex has obvious parallels with the Tayylga ritual, traditional for the indigenous population of Altai. According to ethnographic data, this practice has been recorded since the second half of the XIX century and up to the present time.
