Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to present an educational plan to efficiently teach Korean history and culture to Korean learners in the field of Korean language education for foreigners. In this paper, we conceptualized history and culture, focusing on discussions on history and culture education at home and abroad. In addition, the categories of Korean history and culture were set and the main contents and characteristics of each category were investigated. As a result, it was confirmed that “history” or “historical culture” was included in the universal Korean curriculum and textbooks, and it was also included in the textbooks. However, in the current Korean language education, “historical culture” education has limitations in many ways, and as a way to improve it, cooperation with neighboring studies, development of curriculum based on demand surveys, and improvement of teachers' capabilities were suggested.
