Abstract

The article is devoted to the discovery of the early medieval settlement of ancient Penjikent (the 5th -8th centuries) (Tajikistan) and the creation of an archaeological museum-reserve. The site is widely known in the archaeological world for its raw architecture decorated with wall paintings. It is often called the “Eastern Pompeii” and the “Olympus of Archeology of Tajikistan”. Archaeological research of the settlement has been carried out since 1946. In the late 1970s, the settlement was declared a museum-reserve. In this paper, we propose ways to develop the museum’s exposition, the creation of storage facilities that meet modern standards of museum field, which in the future will help not only attract more visitors, but also preserve museum objects.
