Abstract

The article under study highlights the main issues related to the development of the ritual role of the syook (clans) heads called zaisans. On the basis of the collected material, the periodization is given of their ritual role formation in the creation, organization and holding of the El Oyin holiday, which was originally planned as a championship in national sports. The article describes the ritual practice of worshiping the Altai deity carried out by the assembled zaisans in the morning on the opening day of the El Oyin holiday. The article also gives an overview of the documents, namely -regional laws, adopted on organization issues. These laws take into account the traditional symbols of reverence for the Altai nature while determining the location and the date of the event of nationwide significance which attract folklore groups from such neighboring regions as Tuva, Khakassia, Kemerovo region and Altai Territory.
