Abstract

This study classified plants, which are the main ingredients of horticultural activities, into cut flowers, pottted plants, and processed flowers for the elderly, and conducted customized horticultural activities to confirm the impact on depression and stress reduction in the elderly. The subjects of this study were elderly people who used D home care centers in D city, and the average age was 76.13±5.85 years old. Fifteen cut flower programs, 15 potted plant programs, and 14 processed flower programs participated. Horticultural activities consisted of a total of 10 sessions, and from October to December 2021, one session per week for each program and one hour for each session. Depression was measured and analyzed using the elderly depression scale SGDS-K and stress using a u-BioMacpa device. As a result, the depression the elderly due to horticultural activities decreased regardless of the type of material. In the case of stress reduction, it was confirmed that the stress level was significantly reduced when was potted plant programs used as the main material
