Abstract
It is theoretically shown that the effective carrier photogeneration rate in a longitudinal photoresistor, which directly initiates the conversion of radiation into electric current, can be positive, zero, or negative, and in absolute value significantly exceed the true carrier photogeneration rate. The effects are due to photoinduced local space charge.
