Abstract

In 2021, excavations continued at the Ikh nuulegt archaeological complex, which consists of several Xiongnu burial sites and is located in Orkhontuul somon in Selenge aimag of Mongolia. As a result of the work carried out, four burials at the Ikh nuulegt-I and Ikh nuulegt-III sites were investigated. All the burial mounds had traces of looting incursions. This circumstance affected the preservation of the gravestones and intra-grave structures. Clearing at different levels and detailed fixation allowed the features of the funerary practices of the ancient nomadic population of the Xiongnu empire to be restored. In addition to human bones, osteological remains from animals as well as remains of funerary implements were discovered.
